After more than two years since Circle was released, the long awaited follow-up album is finally here! I have nothing but good things to say about it. It’s telling in that I’ve had the album on repeat for over a week now and haven’t gotten tired of it yet. In fact, I love it more and more!
My favorite track off the album is Tur Yang…, which I’m sure most of you have already heard. While the lyrics express insecurities and doubt that may come with love, the music emotes hope and faith within that very same love because love is hardly ever one smooth ride. Then there’s Mai Roo Ja Ah-ti-bai Yahng Ngai, which is about loving someone so much that you can’t even explain it. It’s about doing things out of character and the frustration of when love cannot validate such actions.
Now I’m sure you want to hear more about the other songs that have yet to be released. I won’t talk about every track, but I’ll touch upon a few. So here goes…
Jum Arai Mai Dai is about being in denial of a love that’s ended and being stuck in the past because he “can’t handle reality.” The song is full of irony because it’s not that he “can’t remember anything,” but that he can only remember what he chooses to remember. Ngai Ngai is one of those songs you just want to bop your head to. Actually, most of the songs in the album has this affect on me. Anyway, Ngai Ngai is a song about not being able to resist and always “giving in so easily” to the one who keeps hurting you. Yeah, one of those dysfunctional relationships that hurts so good. In Ai, Pup wants to tell the girl he misses her, but she’s oblivious. He wants to tell her he loves her, but he’s afraid that it would be too much. What’s a guy to do when he’s too “shy” to muster up courage to confess his true feelings? I can definitely see track 9 becoming part of a lakorn soundtrack in the future. It has the elements of a bickering couple that ends up falling in love.
One thing I’ve loved about Potato is that their albums seem to always have a nice balance of rock songs and soft ballads and Human is no different. The album is easy to listen to and there’s a song for just about any mood you’re in.
